Musical Organization Rules

 

General

 

A color guard is not required. However, if there is one the following rules apply:

The American Flag must be properly guarded and never dipped for salute or

dishonored in any way.

The American Flag must be in its correct position, on its marching right.

Finials must face front and, other than an eagle on the American Flag, must be uniform.

 

A banner is not required but if there is one the carriers must be in color guard uniform, the banner must be carried level and hand placement must be uniform.

 

The drum major/majorette must salute the reviewing stand.

 

There are to be no actions to impede the forward progress of the parade, such as stopping to perform at the reviewing stand.

 

There is to be no consumption of alcohol, smoking, spitting, waving or chewing gum in the ranks.

 

Musicality

 

Music must be provided while all marchers pass the reviewing stand.

A constant cadence must be maintained.

The cadence must be such that the marchers can easily maintain the pace.

Off key or wrong notes as well as a bad start or finish of a song or faking/not playing

will be assessed a penalty.

 

Formation

 

The musical organization must maintain the proper following distance as defined in the general parade rules and regulations.

 

Uniform spacing within the ranks must be maintained.

 

All members must be in step, covered and dressed.

 

Uniformity

 

Rifles, sabers, etc. must be carried on the same shoulder. Upper hand on the flag staff must match the shoulder.

 

The wearing of non-prescription sunglasses must be uniform – everyone or no one.

Exceptions made for prescription sunglasses.

 

Sashes, shoes, slacks, shorts, kilts, socks, gloves, head cover etc. must match. Head cover exceptions will be made for large instruments such as a Sousaphone or contrabass or any other instance deemed appropriate.
